The page yield is calculated by manufacturers using ISO/IEC 24711 standards, where they print set documents of 5% page coverage until the cartridge is empty. The standard means you can compare yields between cartridges and manufacturers.

This 653A yellow cartridge is filled with HP's specially designed ColourSphere toner powder formula. This powder is made to leave a professional, smooth finish on every page and make consistent high quality prints. The original 653A yellow toner can be used in the printer at the same time as compatible/refilled toners, original toners and toners with different page yields. Which means you can use the best mix of products to sort your printing needs. You'll never need to replace a drum unit in this printer, this is the part the prints the toner powder into its shape, as each toner cartridge will always have a drum attached to it. Not only does this mean a lower running cost but also your printer is being maintained more regularly so it can perform at its best all year round. You'll notice your HP printer has a waste toner collector just to the side of where you insert the cartridges, when this is full the printer will tell you and all you need to do is replace it with a new empty one to keep everything running smoothly.
