Storing unopened cartridges to ensure they have the longest possible shelf-life is pretty simple when you follow these guidelines:
Keep the product standing upright, nozzles up
This minimises the risk of leaks or nozzle issues.
Keep the product cool
Avoid storing cartridges near a radiator or by PCs that get warm. A cool drawer is ideal.
Keep the product dry
No baths for your cartridges, sorry.
Keep it in a dark place
Direct sunlight, and artificial light, can degrade ink quality, so darkness is advised.
That's all there is to it!
We normally advise storing cartridges for between 6-12 months for the best possible performance. While you can likely store them for longer, we find this to be the sweet spot for keeping your printer running smoothly.
How To Store A Cartridge You've Opened
It occasionally happens, you open the wrong colour before you need it and are left with an unsealed product possibly going to waste.
While it's always better to limit this ever happening, if it does it might not be the end of the world.
Step 1: Replace any clips you removed from the cartridge
Step 2: Place them in an airtight plastic tub
Step 3: Make sure to place the cartridge with the nozzle facing up
Step 4: Place a damp cloth in the tub
Those simple steps should maximise how long your cartridge lasts without issue but, for best performance and to minimise any issues, avoid opening incorrect cartridges and use them as early as possible.
